Activities

The sun and moon rise in the east over Lanikai Beach.  Take a short, vigorous hike up the pillbox trail (not recommended for children) at dawn to watch the sky light up as the sun crests the twin Mokulua islands. Or take an evening picnic down to the beach and watch the full moon emerge magically from the lapping sea.

The protected waters of Lanikai are perfect for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking and SUP'ing.  Nearby Kailua Beach, a 2-1/2 mile crescent of white sand with a gentle shore break, is great for swimming and boogie-boarding, and the more adventurous can try their hand at kite boarding on windy day.

Kailua is a great biking town, with a paved path that follows the coast and cuts in to town at the historic Kalapawai Market, a local favorite since 1932.   Take a yoga class or enjoy a traditional Hawaiian LomiLomi massage.  Try the famous shave ice, local-style BBQ or fresh-from-the-sea poke.  Sample organic juices and artisan coffees at one of the many locally owned eateries, shop for fashion and decor and souvenirs, mingle with your neighbors and grab local bites at the Thursday evenings farmers market.  Buzz's at Lanikai is a time honored tradition for happy hour or dinner.

If you have a taste for more action, Honolulu and Waikiki are a 30 minute drive over the Pali Highway, and feature world-class shopping and dining and night spots.
